The Summer Olympics

Decatur, GA As Atlanta heats up in anticipation of the Summer Olympic Games, her neighbor, Decatur prepares to become the Irish Host City of the 1996 Summer Games.

Before the quest for Olympic gold begins, Decatur treated themselves to the best: Tommy Makem on St. Patrick's Day. Fresh from speaking to the Yeats Society of Atlanta's Annual Black tie banquet, Makem appeared as part of a concert series designed to highlight the cultural diversity of the games. The series' artistic director, Nanci Griffith, picked Makem to kick off the series and served and host for the concert at a packed Decatur Stadium. So taken with Makem, she stayed on stage to sing a few with the modern Bard of Armargh.
