Tommy Makem at Vanessa Redgrave's Benefit
for People of Kosovo in New York

 

On July 20th, Tommy Makem joined an all star bill including Cary Elwes, Angus Macfadyen, Emily Watson and Mandy Patinkin as guests of Vanessa Redgrave in her benefit for the people of Kosovo.

Presented by the Albanian/American Women's Organization, "Motrat Qiriazi" at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, Makem performed his signature song, "Four Green Fields" while being accompanied by his son Rory Makem on bass and guitar.

Patinkin, sang "Somewhere over the Rainbow" and Redgrave who personally introduced Tommy Makem and then followed him in the show with a recitation of the poetry of Ismail Kadare.

The Women's Commission for Refugee Women and Children reports that food and medical aid are needed by nearly 100, 000 refugees in Kosovo approximately 80% of whom
are women and children. Proceeds from the concert were sent directly to Motrat Qiriazi and the Kosovo Humanitarian & Charitable Society.

Makem continues his festival and concert performance schedule with appearances at Lincoln Center in New York, Cape Cod. Newport, RI, Kansas City, Philadelphia, Baltimore,
Brooklyn and Dublin Ireland.
