Tommy Makem's One Man Show
Tommy Makem finished up a very successful two week stint at
the Irish
Repertory Theatre in New York. For nearly the entire run of his
one man
play entitled 'Invasions and Legacies', ne'er a seat could be
found and
audiences were sent spellbound with a new knowledge of Ireland's
ancient past.
The play, in two parts, recanted the birth of Ireland and
its people from its
discovery by Noah's granddaughter, through ties with Moses, past
the
great invasions and up to today.
After coming to America almost forty years ago, he was finally
able towrite
and perform a piece that has been in his heart for as long. Backed
up instrumentally by Ron D'Addario on guitar and Bob Mastro on
fiddle, the
show was a lifelong dream fulfilled for Tommy.
According to the New York Times, at one point "Makem
has his audience
ready to go out and die for Ireland."
